Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Neume ("we", "us") governing your use of the Neume website and application. By using Neume you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data and forms part of these terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Neume, or the higher minimum age your country sets for online services. If you use Neume on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.

3. Accounts

You can use the editor without an account; in that case your work stays in your browser and is not saved by us. Saving scores, syncing across devices, and collaboration require an account. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider (WorkOS), including sign-in with Google. Keep your sign-in method secure; you are responsible for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep it current. You can delete your account at any time from within the app.

4. Your content and ownership

You own your scores. Neume claims no ownership of the music you write, import, or store. To run the service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and process your content solely as needed to provide Neume's features: saving and syncing, version history, collaboration, playback, and export. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for residual copies that persist briefly in backups.

You are responsible for your content. You confirm you have the rights to the music you store on Neume, and that it does not infringe anyone's copyright or other rights. We may remove content we reasonably believe is unlawful or infringing.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

5. Collaboration and sharing

When you share a score, the collaborators you invite get the access you assign (editor or viewer). Every change made in a shared draft is attributed to its author by account id and display name, and collaborators on that score can see this attribution; it is how the product works. The score's owner controls sharing, publishing, and removal of the score. Do not invite collaborators to content you have no right to share.

6. Acceptable use

Do not:

• use Neume for anything unlawful, or store content that is illegal or that infringes others' rights;
• probe, disrupt, or overload the service, or bypass its rate limits or access controls;
• access other users' accounts or scores without authorization;
• scrape the service or harvest data from it at scale;
• resell or misrepresent the service as your own.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

7. Neume Pro, payments, and subscriptions

• The core editor is free. Cloud features (saving scores to your account and syncing them) require a Neume Pro subscription, available monthly or annually.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details.
• A subscription may start with a free trial; you will not be charged before the trial ends, and you can cancel during it at no cost.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal in the app; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
• If a renewal payment fails, paid features may be suspended until payment succeeds.
• We may change prices with advance notice; changes apply from your next billing period. Refunds are provided where required by law.
• If your subscription lapses, your stored scores remain exportable; we will not hold your work hostage.

8. The service and changes to it

We are actively developing Neume and may add, change, or remove features. We aim to keep the service available, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. Export your work regularly; the editor offers PDF, MusicXML, MIDI, WAV, and its own file format.

9. Disclaimers

Neume is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Neume will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these terms or the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 50 US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Termination

You may stop using Neume and delete your account at any time; deletion removes your account and stored data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service; where practical, we will give you notice and a chance to export your work. Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive termination.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States of America, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in the United States of America have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these terms, except where the law of your residence gives you a mandatory right to another venue.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will post updates on this page and update the date at the top; for material changes we will give reasonable advance notice (for example, in the app). Continuing to use Neume after changes take effect means you accept them.
